Talent Managers

About Talent Managers

In many states, Managers aren’t legally allowed to act like agents.

The job of the agent is to create opportunities, procure and negotiate employment and counsel clients in the development of their careers. Agents in twenty-two states must be licensed as such. Only licensed talent agents are legally able to procure employment for artists. Managers are not regulated nor are they legally permitted in many states to procure employment or negotiate employment.

SAG-AFTRA encourages managers who wish to work with our members to voluntarily agree to abide by our: Personal Manager Code of Ethics and Conduct.

In exchange, SAG-AFTRA offers them benefits, such as:

  • The manager can claim a relationship with our members that is recognized and acknowledged by SAG-AFTRA.

  • The manager can advertise this fact, if they so desire.

  • The manager’s name will be added to the union’s official list of current management representatives that have executed the Code.

  • This constantly evolving list will be made available to all members in the same manner as the Union’s franchised agents’ lists are.

  • They can count on a more personalized relationship with the Union, including increased assistance with member disputes, whether they are commission-based or otherwise, as well as access to the Union’s free mediation service, and inexpensive dispute resolution mechanisms.

  • They can enroll in benefits that SAG-AFTRA has arranged for other representatives in the past, such as the SAG-AFTRA Health Mart, offering competitive rates for insurance and other programs.
