SAG-AFTRA is a Union, not a Guild

What is a Union?
An organization of employees formed for the purpose of advancing its members' interests in respect to wages, working conditions, and benefits. When we work for producers, we work as employees, not as independent contractors. As employees, we are protected by employment and labor laws and can earn healthcare and a pension (retirement income).

What is a Guild?
An organization of independent contractors formed for the purpose of advancing its members' interests in respect to wages, working conditions, and benefits. Independent contractors are not protected by employment and labor laws and do not earn healthcare or a pension from their clients.
