Support Companies
The following are independent companies who provide a variety of services and resources to SAG-AFTRA members.
“The SAG-AFTRA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the most comprehensive, educational and state-of-the-art resources to SAG-AFTRA members. The Foundation believes that the contributions made to our culture by performing artists are not only valuable, but essential.
The Foundation understands that artists live in a rapidly changing world, and it’s imperative that our actors, voiceover artists, broadcasters, dancers, and other artists understand the evolving industry landscape, are provided the tools necessary to navigate these changes successfully, and are given the opportunity to hone their craft as they continue through their careers.
We know there are ups and downs in the performing arts, and the Foundation is here for SAG-AFTRA members, in good times and bad. Through our assistance programs, we work to ensure that no performer is alone when times get tough.
We also offer opportunities for SAG-AFTRA members to make a difference through our children’s literacy program, Storyline Online, and contributing even further to spreading creative knowledge and inspiration while giving back to our communities.
That’s why the Foundation promotes education and giving back to our communities. We believe that by working together as performers, and with our partners throughout the entertainment industry, we can create a vibrant and progressive creative landscape where performers can discover inspirations and achieve new levels in a safe and supported environment.
Acting is about taking chances and leaping into the unknown, and the Foundation is dedicated to helping performers reach their highest heights while always landing firmly on their feet.”
“SAGindie promotes the working relationship between professional actors and passionate independent filmmakers. Since its formation in 1997, SAGindie has been traveling to film festivals, trade shows, and conventions spreading the word: Just because your film isn’t produced by a studio doesn’t mean you can’t use professional talent. As a free resource, SAGindie offers filmmakers clarity and kinship by guiding them through the SAG-AFTRA signatory process, making it even easier to hire professional actors, regardless of budget. SAGindie is made possible by a grant from the SAG-AFTRA Producers Industry Advancement & Cooperative Fund.”
“The SAG-AFTRA Producers Industry Advancement and Cooperative Fund (IACF) provides educational and informational assistance to performers and producers that improve and promote the organization, advancement, and standards of the entertainment industry. Programs it supports include the American Humane Association, SAGindie and the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.”
“OUR PHILOSOPHY
We exist solely to serve the financial needs of our members. We measure our success by the fiscal soundness of the credit union, by the breadth and quality of service to our members, and by increasing our membership from the ranks of SAG and AFTRA.
All products and services of the credit union will be designed to elevate the comfort level of each member at any given point in their transactional relationships with the credit union. Bearing this in mind, it is the policy of the credit union to seek constant improvement in this area by continuous quantitative, statistical and empirical research across our member base and the SAG-AFTRA performer community, to find areas where current products and services can be improved, new products and services can be implemented to meet performer community needs and to measure the quality of our service both statistically and in the perception of the performer community. We define our success by how well we meet these needs and we continually strive for improvement.
Our tagline, ‘Outperforming at every stage’, is a simple philosophy that drives everyone at SAG-AFTRA FCU. And since 1962, empowered by the unity of all our members, we’ve lived up to that promise.”
“Actors Federal Credit Union is a cooperatively run, not-for-profit financial organization chartered in 1962 for the benefit of members of Actors’ Equity Association.
Today, members in good standing of Actors’ Equity Association, SAG-AFTRA, or any of our other 150+ member organizations are eligible to apply for credit union membership. Immediate family members are also eligible to join, including but not limited to: spouse/domestic partner, children, siblings, parents, grandparents, and grandchildren.
Unlike commercial financial institutions, ActorsFCU cares about and serves only one group—our community. Our sole purpose is to offer better deals than commercial institutions offer, like lower rates, more cost-effective services, and better service.”
“Mission: The Actors Fund fosters stability and resiliency, and provides a safety net for performing arts and entertainment professionals over their lifespan.
Founded in 1882, we serve all professionals—and not just actors—in film, theater, television, music, opera, radio and dance through programs that address our community’s unique and essential needs.
Employment in any division of the performing arts and entertainment industry is unpredictable. Work is erratic, security is fleeting and health insurance is often just a dream. For all of these reasons and many more, The Actors Fund is an indispensable and deeply significant part of the entire entertainment community.
As a national organization with offices in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, we directly serve thousands of performing arts and entertainment professionals across the country every year, in person and via our online resources. Our programs are wide in scope, responsive in nature and produce significant results.”
“MPTF supports our entertainment community in living and aging well, with dignity and purpose, and in helping each other in times of need.
MPTF is supported by the philanthropy and volunteer services of fellow entertainment industry members. Our industry is unique and we have a history of taking care of our own like no other industry in the world. People are at the heart of what we do each and every day and it’s because of the extraordinary generosity of countless donors, families, and volunteers, that we can deliver services to thousands of people each month.”
“Since 1961, the SAG-Producers Pension Plan has provided retirement benefits to entertainment industry professionals. Based on collective bargaining agreements between SAG-AFTRA and employers, contributions are made to the Plan on behalf of actors for work performed. Pensions are calculated based on earnings over the course of one’s career, and once enough pension earnings are credited, a vested pension becomes available.”
“The AFTRA Retirement Fund has provided retirement benefits to performers – including actors, broadcasters and voice professionals – for nearly 60 years. The AFTRA Retirement Fund was established as a result of collective bargaining between the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) and contributing employers.
The AFTRA Retirement Fund is a separate legal entity from SAG-AFTRA, the union. The AFTRA Retirement Fund is not a subsidiary, department or agent of SAG-AFTRA. No portion of SAG-AFTRA’s union dues goes to support the AFTRA Retirement Fund’s benefits or operational expenses, except for the contributions that SAG-AFTRA makes to provide retirement benefits for its own employees.
SAG-AFTRA negotiates collective bargaining agreements with contributing industry employers that include provisions relating to the contributions employers agree to make to the AFTRA Retirement Fund on behalf of covered employees. Performers who meet established earnings levels for work performed under these contracts can become eligible to participate in the AFTRA Retirement Plan.
The AFTRA Retirement Fund is a “jointly trusteed” fund. It is governed by a Board of Trustees with representation from both SAG-AFTRA and contributing industry employers. The Trustees are responsible for setting the benefits, rules and regulations of the Fund and generally overseeing AFTRA Retirement Plan operations. The AFTRA Retirement Fund staff, led by the Chief Executive Officer, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the AFTRA Retirement Fund. The Trustees and staff are assisted by professional consultants, including AFTRA Retirement Fund counsel, investment advisors and managers, actuaries, health benefit consultants and certified public accountants.”
“The SAG-AFTRA Health Plan provides health benefits to tens of thousands of eligible media professionals and their dependents around the globe. ”
