Major Bargaining Partners
The following are the employers, or entities that represent multiple employers, with whom we negotiate our employment contracts.
Also listed is the ATA, or Association of Talent Agents, which represents the interests of the talent agencies who are not franchised by SAG-AFTRA to represent our members. They use General Services Agreements (GSAs), the terms of which favor the agent, instead of Legacy SAG or AFTRA Franchise Agreements, which favor the talent. SAG-AFTRA would need to negotiate with the ATA to get their members to use franchise agreements.
“The Joint Policy Committee, LLC (JPC) represents advertisers and advertising agencies who have authorized us to collectively bargain on their behalf with SAG-AFTRA and the American Federation of Musicians, on the collective bargaining agreements that govern the use of performers and musicians in commercials (collectively, the “CBAs”).
In addition to negotiating the CBAs every 3 years, the JPC educates the industry on all issues relating to the CBAs through nationwide town halls, individual seminars for advertisers and agencies, and presentations to industry committees. We serve as the industry’s unified voice in dialogue with the unions regarding CBA interpretations, questions, claims, and grievances.”
“Since 1982, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) has been the trade association responsible for negotiating virtually all industry-wide guild and union contracts, including those with American Federation of Musicians (AFM); Directors Guild of America (DGA); International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE); International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW); Laborers Local 724; Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA); Teamsters, Local #399; and Writers Guild of America (WGA) among others. The AMPTP, the entertainment industry’s official collective bargaining representative, negotiates 58 industry-wide collective bargaining agreements on behalf of hundreds of motion picture and television producers.”
“Netflix is the world’s leading streaming entertainment service with 193 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, documentaries and feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can watch as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, on any internet-connected screen. Members can play, pause and resume watching, all without commercials or commitments.”
“Since 1937, the Association of Talent Agents (ATA) has been and remains the official trade association of talent agencies across the U.S., responsible for legislation, advocacy and negotiating agency franchise agreements with the major entertainment guilds, including SAG, AFTRA (SAG-AFTRA), WGA, DGA, and AEA. ATA’s collective voice provides strong and effective advocacy for its members in matters relating to the talent-agency business. The association’s one-hundred-plus agency members represent the vast majority of the professional working artists today. ATA provides best practices, a voice in legislation, educational seminars, networking events, conferences, news bulletins, expert opinions and day-to-day support.”
